Senaka Senanayake

Painting of Senanka Senanayake

Raymond Charmet of Art et Loisirs, Paris, first identified Senaka’s talent nearly forty years ago when he said “Senaka has produced paintings of extraordinary virtuosity”

Senaka Senanayake is celebrating fifty years since he made his debut as an artist at the tender age of seven, with the launch of ‘Life and Work of Senaka Senanayake’ by Harsha Bhatkal. Credited with over 110 one-man exhibitions at age 57, Senaka had the privilege of painting a mural, as a child artist, at the delegates’ lounge of the United Nations General Assembly, alongside the executive works of world’s major artists.

Senaka’s paintings capture the beauty of the environment showing different aspects on his themes – rainforest, foliage, and flowers, with a particular strength, in conveying his message through vibrant colours. Harsha Bhatkal is publisher of Popular Prakashan, a prestigious publishing house in India. Bhatkal is planning on showcasing South Asian art to the world and speaking of the book said “This book is lavish in colour, and it celebrates that joy of living that has driven Senaka’s work. Sri Lankan art is vibrant and alive today, and we want the art community around the world to notice this”

Heartiest congratulations go out to SriLankan Airlines as they celebrate their latest accolade for excellence. Sri Lankan Airlines has been added to the Registry of the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA).

The International Air Transport Association launched IOSA in 2003, and it remains a key element in IATA’ s drive to provide benchmarking of safety and quality standards and procedures among airlines throughout the global industry. The Registration is mandatory for an airline to remain a member of IATA, which has some 240 member airlines.
SriLankan received the registration following a series of stringent audits by an IATA accredited audit organisation, PROS. It is valid until 1st December 2008, and would be renewed thereafter every two years subject to future audits.
