Greetings from Sri Lanka!

Greetings from sunny Sri Lanka; from the land of myriad treasures,
a land like no other:

 

 

Sri Lanka Tourism’s stakeholders are all set and ready to participate at the mega international event of the year, in Germany from 5th to 9th March -the International Tourismus Börse (ITB) in Messe Berlin, Berlin.

A 48 strong delegation comprising officials, hoteliers, tour operators, travel agents, and associate companies will travel to Berlin to showcase destination Sri Lanka to the world. In the 402 square metre area allocated to Sri Lanka, among other attractions there will be stalls with service providers presenting information on their products while Ayurvedha treatment, mask carving and a gem studded elephant on display will be star attractions. A traditional Sri Lankan dance troupe complete with traditional drummers will specially fly over to Berlin to participate in promoting destination Sri Lanka to the world, while ‘The Mavericks’ the German country music band scheduled to visit Sri Lanka in mid March, will make a guest appearance.

Sri Lanka Calling congratulates the Sri Lankan Team on their stellar performance at the 5th World Carrom Championships in Cannes, France.

On beating India, winning the Gold and being crowned world champions, the Sri Lankan men’s team made Sri Lanka proud in Cannes France, where the Sri Lankan contingent received much accolades bringing honour and glamour to Sri Lanka a land like no other.

Peter and Lyn Gayler from Britain, on their 25th visit to Sri Lanka and the 22nd to Tropical Villas at Beruwela, celebrated their 1000th night in Sri Lanka on 1st February at a special felicitation to mark the event, at Tropical Villas.  

Lyn Gayler in a jubilant mood said “It was really a nice feeling to go down memory lane. Some years we have been visiting Sri Lanka three times a year for at least two weeks per visit and we insist on getting the same room at this cosy resort” Having first visited Sri Lanka in 1995 the Gaylers are enamoured by Sri Lanka and Beruwela in particular. January and February saw Sri Lanka Tourism making a strong impact at Travel Fairs at- Rhein – Neckar –Pfalz, Mannheim, Caravan- Motor- Touristik, Stuttgart, Reisen Hamburg, Reise Camping Essen and the most recent at Caravan Boot Reisen Munich.

At each of these fairs, destination Sri Lanka was showcased to visitors who were eager to learn of the ground situation in Sri Lanka to enable them to make their immediate winter travel plans. They were presented with the reality that tourism operations are conducted without any disruption at all tourist centres in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka’s women marathon runners joined their better known counterparts to make top news for Sri Lanka, when they won the ‘Greatest Race On Earth’ last week. Held in four cities, the Sri Lankans emerged winners in the Middle East and South Asia category with a timing of 12: 57.21 and securing the women’s regional title.

The GROE launched in 2004/ 2005, has grown to become a truly international event fielding a breadth of elite athletes. The race consists of four marathons in Nairobi, Singapore, Mumbai and Hong Kong with the teams with the highest aggregate timings getting an opportunity to share in the prize money of US $ 1.08 million, the largest prize pool in world athletics.

Lanka Sportreizen (LSR) established way back in 1989, to promote destination Sri Lanka as a location for the sport loving adventurous visitor, was spurred on, in their work on being recognized by the Professional Association for Diving Instructors (PADI) the world governing body of diving and underwater activities. PADI honoured LSR Diving Centre, as the first 5 Star Gold Palm Resort in Sri Lanka.
