Day 1 Mon or Sat London/Colombo
Fly SriLankan Airlines from Heathrow on Monday, or Saturday at a supplement.
Day 2 Tue or Sun Colombo
On arrival transfer to the colonial Mount Lavinia Hotel. Afternoon at leisure to enjoy your surroundings (approx. 31 miles).
Day 3 Wed or Mon Colombo/Pinnawela/Habarana
Morning start for Pinnawela elephant orphanage. After lunch continue on to Habarana Village for two nights (approx. 130 miles) (B,L,D).
Day 4 Thu or Tue Habarana
Morning optional sightseeing available at extra cost to Polonnaruwa the 11th Century Sinhalese capital. After lunch visit the rock fortress of Sigiriya. A climb to the top (only for the energetic!) will reveal perfectly preserved frescoes and a spectacular view (approx. 135 miles) (B,D).
Day 5 Fri or Wed Habarana/Kandy
After breakfast drive to the Citadel hotel in Kandy for two nights visiting the magnificent Dambulla rock caves, a spice plantation and batik workshop en route. This afternoon visit the Temple of the Tooth. Evening visit to see a Kandyan dancing and culture show (approx. 80 miles) (B,D).
Day 6 Sat or Thu Kandy
Full day to enjoy some sightseeing in Kandy. Visit the Royal Botanical Gardens ablaze with colourful exotic plants. This afternoon enjoy a tour of the market square, a gem showroom and Upper Lake Drive (approx. 20 miles) (B,D).
Day 7 Sun or Fri Kandy/Nuwara Eliya
Leave Kandy on the way for the hill country, with a stop en route at Pusselawa to visit a tea plantation and factory. Then travel on to Nuwara Eliya and St. Andrews hotel, most celebrated of the hill stations. Afternoon sightseeing of Nuwara Eliya (approx. 65 miles) (B,D).
Day 8 Mon or Sat Nuwara Eliya/Embilipitiya
This morning travel to Udawalawe National Park. After lunch enjoy a jeep safari. Besides Sambar deer, wild buffalo, mongoose to name a few, the park is famed for its herds of elephants. Travel to the Centuria Hotel, Embilipitiya for dinner and overnight (approx. 130 miles) (B,L,D).
Day 9 Tue or Sun Embilipitiya/Beach
Leave for the Riverina hotel, or the beach hotel of your choice at the appropriate cost. En route enjoy lunch and a visit to the Dutch Fort at Galle (approx. 125 miles) (B,L).
Day 10 Wed or Mon to Day 14 Sun or Fri Beach
Time to relax and enjoy the delightful hospitality and beaches of Sri Lanka.
Day 15 Mon or Sat Beach/London
SriLankan Airlines to Heathrow on Monday or Saturday arriving later the same day.
